Mino Madzwin
Mino Madzwin is a culturally sensitive program made for Native/Aboriginal youth. It was designed to address the underlying factors that cause the abuse of drugs, alcohol, and substances and also to provide tools for developing a positive behavior and lifestyle.

Mino Madzwin is built with ‘best practice’ psychology, e-learning and multimedia to provide a powerful treatment program. It is also designed to prevent incarceration, to help youth turn around their lives and go in a more positive direction.

The program is made up of 4 spokes (units) which touch on several important issues essential for success. They are the Pro Social spoke; Family & Community spoke; Anger Management spoke, and finally, the Substance Abuse spoke.

Below are the ‘features’ we incorporate into our Mino Madzwin program, under the anger and pro-social spokes:

Anger Spoke

  • Progressive muscle relaxation
  • ABC model
  • Assertiveness skills
  • Relapse prevention

    Pro Social Spoke
  • Disputation
  • Low Frustration Tolerance
  • Danger Signs
  • Learning to be Optimistic

    Relapse Prevention
    A Bill Winogron blog

When developing our Mental Media substance abuse applications, we found that our best practices exercises tended to focus on solutions only. A key evolution in our product programming was our ability to focus not just on the solution to a behavioral problem, but the prevention of it reocurring… Relapse Prevention. This blog post is simply an outline of one such preventative exercise that we have carried out for substance abuse.

"I really like the videos on real life situations and the interactive parts. I like that you’re not just sitting with some other person who just tells you not to do something when they haven’t experienced it or been there themselves. It’s cool that it shows you how to use the anger management techniques, not just tells you."
