AI/GI/CRV/IS 2007 (Precarn Conference)
Posted by: Beau Sackey
Precarn Corp, an independent not-for-profit company, which supports the pre-commercial development of leading-edge technologies. They partner with Canadian companies who are seeking to commercialize their new ideas to get an edge in global markets. S4Potential was at an event organized by Precarn last week. It was a combined conference called AI/GI/CRV/IS 2007, held at the Chateau Champlain in Montreal, QC.
(AI/GI/CRV/IS stands for Artificial Intelligence/Graphic Interface/Computer & Robotic Vision/Intelligent Systems) The various academic posters and company booths at the conference were grouped into one of those 4 categories.
The conference was filled with various workshops and project demonstrations, and also included speakers, project posters and exhibits. Actually, most of the exhibitors were from academia (Ph.D and Masters level students) displaying their posters and demonstrations.
Usually the way Precarn works is; Precarn partners with both private sector companies and with academics from universities all across the country. Both partners play a crucial role. In most cases, the private sector company is responsible for the commercialization or the “bringing to market” of the technology, and the university is responsible for all the research that goes into developing the particular technology.
A couple of companies that had very interesting demonstrations on display were:
EK3 Technologies Inc - Intelligent Promotions Management System
Biopeak Corporation - Glucose Monitoring
Quansar Inc - Haptic Stroke Rehabilitation
Braintech Canada Inc - Robotic Parts Selection: Bin Picking
Take a look at the websites and view the cool offerings on hand.
David Baril, project manager at S4Potential was on-hand to give a 10 minute presentation on S4’s work with the Carleton University HOTlab and the University of Toronto Computer Science department in collaboration with Precarn.
