Autism
S4Potential is currently developing a program designed for parents of children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, and who have not yet become fully engaged in the diagnostic and intervention processes.

The issues
The S4 program will support parents from “point of first contact” and well beyond. The program will anticipate and address parents’ most immediate fears and concerns subsequent to the diagnosis. It will, subsequently, set parents on a path toward capable management of their child’s challenges.

The proposed program will address:

  • Knowledge and skills required for parents to manage the immediate challenges and emotional repercussions of the diagnosis on the family.
  • Developing the skills necessary to intervene with challenging and disruptive behaviours, and to assist the child with ASD to maximize social and communication skills.

Specific content elements have been determined through collaboration with subject matter experts within and external to the partner agency - - Kinark Child & Family Services.
